Now more or less settled in our lovely listed building in South London, which we moved to at the end of July, we can relax, knowing that we have a 5 year lease, so no more changes of address for a while!
In August we auditioned a batch of prospective new faces. We receive literally hundreds of applications from actors each year, and about twice a year, a whittled down list of people are called in to meet us. Helped by a panel of professionals we were able to increase our list by 5 names and look forwward to helping them develop their careers.
4 of the new intake are Musical Theatre girls:
Chloe Allen, who was a delightful Little Red Riding Hood in a fabulous production of "Into the Woods" at Urdang immediately got a job, and is thoroughly enjoying playing Handa in "Handa's Surprise", a touring play for the Little Angel Theatre Company.
Deborah Bodsworth has just played Audrey in "Little Shop of Horrors" at The Cresset in Peterborough, and is off to Disneyland, Paris, for Christmas.
Melanie Fawcett has star quality written all over her. Musical Theatre actresses whose acting is as good as their singing and dancing are always in demand. Combined with a North Eastern background and accent, and gorgeous looks, we are very excited about this signing.
Laura Greenwell is unique. Also heralding from the North East, this is another Triple Threat, who loves Musical Theatre, has a great personality and striking looks.
It wasn't all girls though, we have signed a new boy, James Quarterman. Our first Welsh client, James has exotic looks, an intelligent and naturalistic playing type and a strong Mountview training to call on.
So what are the existing "Broodies" up to?
Rita Simons goes from strength to strength. Now the winner of 5 awards for best newcomer, for her popular role as Roxy Mitchell/Slater on "Eastenders", Rita won the award for Most Popular Newcomer in the prestigious National Television Awards,at the end of October, screened live at the Albert Hall. Needless to say we are all thrilled for her and proud that one of our clients is helping "Eastenders" stay the best Soap Opera on TV .
Sonu Louis has had a brilliant year. A Rolex advert was followed swiftly by roles in not one, but two movies. If you believe that luck comes in threes, Sonu certainly does, as he recently completed shooting on his third feature film, "London Dreams".
Rachel Hepworth left drama school this Summer and has already had three jobs! The first was as the face of Warburton's bread in an online romantic series, as soon as she graduated. This was followed by "Septimus Severus", a fascinating theatre project in development, about the first black Roman emperor. Rachel's latest role was as a flower child in "The Glass Bottle and the Child" at Pentameters.
David Lee Jones spent the Summer working for Festival Players, touring historic and rural venues as Benedick in "Much Ado". A superb Shakespearean actor in his element in a high quality outdoor production. David is working for Yellow Earth in the Autumn.
Thomas Coombes had fun at Edinburgh, playing the Mad Hatter in "Finding Alice" and came back to perfrom in the successful Deep South play, "Shooting Clouds" at the Union Theatre in Southwark.
Marian Elizabeth went to Iceland (the country, not the shop), to work with Icelandic Theatre Company 540 Floors. On her return she has been booked to work for Big Foot Theatre, in "The Grinch"..
Stephen Arden remains at sea, where he has been visiting more countries than you could in a lifetime of holidays, in a brilliant cruise contract for Costa (the cruise company, not the coffee!). A brief visit home to Scotland, then Stephen is off to the Caribbean, for the second leg.
Shammi Aulakh is enjoying immensely working for Kristine Langdon Smith again, at Tamasha. This time on "Sweet Cider", which is at the Arcola.
Fernando Lee is on screen at the moment, in a Gordon's Gin Ident for Gordon Ramsay. To get the job he had to mime pouring out the gin at the end of a hard day at the office. We always have a bottle IN the office, in case we can't wait til home-time!
Grant McAlister has just finished a production of "West Side Story", in Manchester, in which he played Tony. Grant is working for Pendle Productions on two plays in Rep, in the lead up to Christmas.
Following Laura Cleary's first successful feature film role,in the movie "Photoshoot", she has been performing in New York City, in her first two Off-Broadway productions.
Hugh Darbyshire is still enjoying touring Kent for the Hazlitt, Maidstone, in "Streetwise".
P J King is appearing this Autumn in the successful American play "The Time of your Life", at the Finborough. The production is likely to be a sell-out, as it has not been seen in the UK since the RSc did it 25 years ago.
Jimmy O'Rourke has been touring Ireland with his successful Brendan Behan role in "On Raglan Road".
For the panto season Gary Lamont is due to be the romantic lead in "Sleeping Beauty" at the Brunton Theatre in Scotland.
Mark Kane is spending the first half of 2009 working for Bristol based Travelling Light, in their re-run of the highly popular "Ugly Duckling".
