Height:
6'0"

An expert in world religions, Shammi is British from an Indian background, with an RP accent and fluency in Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi. This means his casting type is very wide, and he can play anything from middle class British Indian doctor to Pakistani Muslim Imam.

Classically trained in London, Shammi is at home doing Shakespeare, as he is playing a typically "Asian" role. Indeed, he would like to see more of a cross over, with Asian actors being cast for their ability, not just because they are Asian.

Shammi has worked for the main Asian theatre companies in London, several projects for Kristine Landon Smith at Tamasha, for Jatinder Verma at Tara Arts, as The Nawab in an Indian version of the classical play "The Marriage of Figaro" and for Rifco Arts in the successful national tour of "The Deranged Marriage."

On screen Shammi appeared in the movies "Goal II" and "Operation X", and in the TV series; "Days that Shook the World"

Shammi has done commercials for BT, Ariel washing powder, Kodak and MFI and is often in demand for Corporates. At the end of 2008 Shammi worked on Tamasha's production, "Sweet Cider", a play about Asian young people, which had a successful run at The Arcola.

Complete with long, bushy beard, Shammi played the Baba in Tamasha's exciting national tour this summer, of an Asian "Wuthering Heights". The play looks beautiful and creates a fantastic atmosphere, which had us all longing to visit India.
