Mark trained at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow where he won the Duncan Macrae Award for Scots Verse Speaking.

He is from Peebles outside Edinburgh but has bases in both London and Scotland. Like David Tennant (as Doctor Who), he can eliminate his Scottish accent if required, and Mark also specialises in being able to act in a whole variety of Scottish accents, more than most people even know exist!

After graduation, Mark spent a year with the acclaimed Dundee Rep Theatre. His varied roles included Sebastian in Dominic Hill's award winning production of "Twelfth Night", Nibs in "Peter Pan", and Herman the German in the Glaswegian farce "Dumbstruck!"Dundee's "Scenes From An Execution", in which Mark was an ensemble player, won Best Production at the Critics' Awards for Theatre in Scotland.

Mark's strong singing and dancing skills came in very useful in his role as Mr Stanley in Kander and Ebb's "Flora, The Red Menace", which started at Dundee and then went on tour, due to popular demand.

Other highlights include playing Kenny, the lead role, in "Riddance" at The Traverse Theatre. Mark has had the fortune to work with some great actors, including Simon Russell Beale and Ralph Fiennes. He also worked with Fiona Shaw in Deborah Warner's critically successful production of "Julius Caesar" at the Barbican.

Mark's most recent appearance on our screens was as Dr Evans in "Heartbeat".

When not acting Mark works as a drama teacher, currently at The Central School of Speech and Drama, and at Shakepespeare's Globe.

Mark has just completed a long tour for Scamp Theatre Company, in their production of "Stick Man". This children's play, based on the highly successful books about a stick family, has completed a national tour, a Christmas and New Year run at Soho Theatre and dates in Dubai. All were very well received.
