If being unique is what get actors noticed, then David Lee-Jones is an actor who will certainly attract attention.
An interesting family heritage which involves China, America and Wales, coupled with a high quality education, have left David a superb and versatile contemporary and classical actor.
East Asian characters are most obvious with David's looks, but he is not stuck playing Chinese. He can play natives of many countries in that part of the world. His international appeal extends to America. He does a faultless American accent, and has played American characters on more than one occasion, most notably Geronimo the New York chicken breeder in "Chicken" over two runs at Hackney Empire and Teatro Technis.
It is in Shakespeare, however, where David excels. His most recent tour, for the excellent Festival Players was his third outdoor summer season in a row. In 2009 David played Antonio, Lorenzo and others in "The Merchant of Venice".
Previous Festival roles include Rosalind in "As you Like it" and Benedick in "Much Ado about Nothing". Two great roles and two great successes, especially to play a woman, as Shakespearean actors always had to do in days gone by.
David has also played Oberon in "A Midsummer Night's Dream". We want to see him as Macbeth, Hamlet and Berowne, among others, so there are lots more to play.
David has been working with Yellow Earth, the acclaimed East Asian theatre producers, in recent years, most notably in their Japanese version of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at Southwark playhouse, in which he played Demetrius and others.
Another highlight for David was working on the "After Methuselah" Shaw five-play cycle, hugely demanding and highly rewarding.
