Barrie has spent most of his career as an actor/singer, in some of the leading theatres in the UK. He has also worked in Canada and in several European countries.

West End credits include "Peter Pan", "Beyond the Rainbow" and "School for Scandal".

TV credits include "Poirot" and "Only Fools and Horses", for the latter of which he still receives fan mail, years after it was originally screened.

Other favourite theatre credits include "Hay Fever", "An Ideal Husband", "A Picture of Dorian Gray", "Time and the Conways", "Comedians" and "How the Other Half Loves".

Barrie is an accomplished pianist and singer. He has appeared in several musicals, including "Gigi" and "Camelot" at Leicester Haymarket, "Canterbury Tales" at Bristol Old Vic, and "Half a Sixpence" in Harrogate. He was a member of the original cast of "Joseph", and was in the national tour of "Irma la Douce".

More recent credits include Sir Archibald - one of the elderly members of a gentlemen's club in the hilarious Frank Muir-penned "The Walpole Orange" at Regent's Park, Jim, an alcoholic ex-dancer in "The Rest of the World", at the Landor, and a pompous councillor in "Doctor Ox's Experiment" at Hackney Empire.

In 2008 Barrie played a faded cabaret star in the Iron Curtain play "Iron Eyelashes" at the New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich.

Autumn 2009 saw Barrie playing Charles Darwin in a small scale tour of "The Ostrich and the Dolphin", which played to excellent Houses. Over Christmas and New Year 2009/10, Barrie was Canon Chasuble in "The Importance of being Earnest" at Greenwich Playhouse.

When free, Barrie enjoys travelling, gardening and singing - particularly Sondheim, and is very proud of his mastery of the Greek language.
