Very few people reading this will not have heard of Roxy Mitchell, the Queen Vic's loveable naughty niece of Peggy, (Barbara Windsor), and sister of Ronnie, (Samantha Womack), in Britain's best Soap, "Eastenders".
Rita landed the role in 2007, and from that moment on has been taken to the hearts of viewers up and down the country and beyond.
For Rita, Roxy is a dream role. The character is cool, cheeky, funny and manages to get into and out of scrapes, relatively unscathed. Fans of all ages love her, from schoolgirls to mature viewers. We always know that a storyline involving Roxy could go in any direction. That is her appeal, the unpredictability.
Before Roxy came along, Rita was most known as the "car mechanic" character in the briefly successful girl band, Girls @ Play. Before that band there were others and although she is a fantastic singer, Rita has no plans to continue with her pop career, as acting is her main love.
Other TV credits include "Mile High" and "Dream Team".
Rita is very flattered to have won several awards for her portrayal of Roxy, especially the National Television Award for "Best Newcomer". She believes that her success is down to the entire cast and team behind "Eastenders", all of whom are wonderfully supportive.
2010 sees the 25th anniversary of "Eastenders", and the show keeps on getting better.
