Some are born glamorous, some achieve glamour, some have glamour thrust upon them. In Philippa's case, her glamour seems so natural, that we can't imagine she was ever an ugly duckling.
Philippa was always a singer, and spent much of her spare time on the cabaret circuit, working in various vocal and big band acts, whilst building up a successful career in the cut and thrust of business.
Eventually, the theatre calling got too loud and Philippa headed for drama school after passing the age of 30, where she had a Ball at GSA, playing everyone from Nora in "A Doll's House" to Cleopatra, via a stint in "The Canterbury Tales".
Philippa's vocal range at Alto/Mezzo, combined with her sultry, almost Mediterranean looks, give her an exotic feel. She played The Spiderwoman in a version of "Kiss of the Spiderwoman", where the character was seen, and loved playing Sally Bowles in "Cabaret", at Norden Farm.
Cut glass RP makes her an ideal Amanda in "Private Lives". Comedy is her forte. She was hilarious as the shopping woman who stumbled into "Jason and the Argonauts" at the Players' in their 2006 try-outs, and thoroughly enjoyed her Panto at The Georgian Theatre, Richmond, Yorkshire, playing Empress Ming and The Fairy of the Ring.
Philippa's last London theatre credit was as the wicked business-obsessed Mother (female lead), in the slightly theatre-of-the-absurd musical play "Subtransmission", at The New Courtyard. On screen this year she has become the face of "Holiday Inn".
In the Summer of 2008 Philippa appeared with her cabaret act "Lend us a Tenner" at the new Henley Fringe Festival. Their self-written show, with new lyrics to some favourite tunes, telling the story of an actor's struggle for recognition, was both hilarious and comically tragically accurate. We vote it the highlight of the festival, but then we are biased!
