Helen is very much a Londoner. Born, brought-up and always having lived in South London, she has an authenticity that cannot be acquired at drama school.
Trained at Rose Bruford, Helen worked early on for such companies as West Yorkshire Playhouse, Nottingham Playhouse, the Young Vic and Sadler's Wells.
Screen roles followed, including Madame Dupres in the Peter Greenaway movie, "The Baby of Macon", Polly Davis in "Notting Hill", and a regular (Val), in "Emmerdale", complete with Northern accent.
Classical credits include "The Broken Heart" and "Salome" at the White Bear and "Tis Pity she's a Whore" at the Duke of Cambridge in the West End.
Helen was thrilled to get the chance to work on the national tour of "Old Times", in 2007, and met the great Harold Pinter at rehearsal. It was wonderful to work on a Sir Peter Hall production.
Recent work includes "Estranged" at the Courtyard, playing a raunchy sister banned from northern suburbia, then returning in all her glory to cause havoc, and an advert for "Take a Break" magazine, as an office cleaner, rescued from drudgery by Kim and Aggie.
Helen's most recent and possibly most fulfilling production was "Stockwell", the Jean-Charles de Menezes court case verbatum play, directed by Sophie Lifshutz. After a sold-out run at The Landor, the play transferred to The Tricycle, where it also sold out. It made the Guardian's "Must see" list, and was surely one of the best productions on the London Fringe last year. Helen's role as the policewoman in charge on the day of the tragic shooting, was as powerful as it was shocking.
This is one actress you must see the next time she is in anything!
