Melanie is what we call in the business a "Triple Threat", meaning she can act and sing and dance, all at a high standard.
Her first job out of drama school was working for "Spirit of the Dance", as lead Production Singer, in an exciting tour of theatres in China, performing Musical Theatre standards to highly excited Full Houses. Not only was her first trip to China fascinating, allowing time off for sight-seeing: The Great Wall, etc, but "Spirit" rehearsed the material in Atlantic City, in the USA, so it was China via America.
In 2009 Melanie did two short runs of the straight play "Calling", set among the patients of a psychiatric hospital, at the King's Head Theatre. Her character, Rebecca, is torn between her friendship for one of her follow patients and her fascination with an ultimately more sinister one.
Late in 2009 Melanie appeared as the wicked (and green), witch in "Nursery Crimes", the excellent whodunnit set in Nursery Rhyme-land, and staged at the King's Head.
Heralding from Newcastle Upon Tyne, via rural Northumberland, Melanie is a natural for gritty Northern girls, as well as for their Southern sisters. Melanie sees herself right across the spectrum from High School Princess to Deprived Estate Drug Addict, and we look forward to seeing her play both roles!
With Melanie's looks to rival Cheryl Cole's, determination to make it, and inspiration, we feel sure that she is heading for something special. She knows the ladder is tough to climb, but here is one girl with her foot firmly on the ladder. Her favourite quote from Uta Hagan;- "There are no small parts, only small actors".
In February 2010 Melanie's next challenge is a move to Germany, where she joins the cast of "Starlight Express" in Bochum. Her first performances will be from May.
